Embroidery Thread Is It all the Same?

No. Embroidery thread is available in different types, weights and brands.

Types: the most common types of thread are polyester and rayon thread. These are general application threads that are used by most embroiderers. Rayon thread is preferred by some for its subtle luster while polyester thread has more of a shine and is less likely to bleed during laundering.

Embroidery shops tend to use either polyester or rayon thread although some embroiderers stock a mixture of both types and use what's most appropriate for a particular job. For example, a wildlife design with color shading might look more realistic embroidered in rayon thread while a business logo embroidered on uniforms that will be industrially laundered should be embroidered with polyester thread to protect against color bleeding.
